[Translation Tuesday] – The Songs of Kiseki – Sora no Kiseki and Hoshi no Arika

trans-tues

This week’s Translation Tuesday is a small offering, as I’m trying to build up some time ahead to get a major thing completed for an upcoming entry.

As such, we welcome a translation from Yotaka in my stead. For this week’s Translation Tuesday, not only has Yotaka translated the opening and ending themes for Trails in the Sky, but he has also provided subtitled videos of them, as well.

Below, you will find the videos, as well as the lyrics for these songs translated, romanized, and in their original kanji.

Sora no Kiseki / ???? / Trails in the Sky

Sung by: U~mi

EnglishRomanizedJapanese

As the night gently falls, sleep peacefully
Until the morning sun warms your weary body

In the passing of time love will bind us together
Like that nameless flower that blooms in its season

The joy of our meeting and the sorrow of our parting
Both are hidden by the endless turning of the sky

What does the sky see and what does the sky hope for?
How many times has it seen us down below, laughing?

What are you looking for, you skygazer?
Remember that even when everything weeps a smile can still be born

Those who are alone can’t know true love
But anyone who is loved can love strongly in return

Burning sorrow and vanishing love
Both are silently caught and stilled by the turning of the sky

What does the sky tell us and what does the sky conceal?
When we embrace the sky where will it lead us?

As the night gently falls, sleep peacefully
Until the morning sun warms your weary body

Until you are warm once more

Hoshi no Arika / ????? / Where the Stars Are

Sung by: U~mi

Note: this has been corrected! The mistake came about from a different singer performing it in the Hoshi no Arika Zanmai CD, as Kanako plays a big part in that album.

EnglishRomanizedJapaneseBonus!

Your shadow fades into the light of the dawn, melting away like the stars
Not knowing where to go next, my feelings start to overflow

In strength and weakness my heart could face anything
Because I knew that if we were together, I wouldn’t be afraid of anything

I want to believe in those times we shared…

The day breaks and a new age without truth or lies dawns
Even if the starry sky fades with the day, I’ll always be able to see your light

All alone I dream of when you said that strange goodbye
What was it I saw reflected in your eyes that night?

Nobody can erase the time we shared together

Even if it’s lonely, even if it hurts, I want to share everything with you
If I can look in your eyes just once more, my wish will be granted

As I sleep, just before the dawn, the wind blows past my face
Filling me with memories of your voice and your scent

I give my memories wings and send them soaring towards your sky
Even if the starry sky fades with the day, I’ll always be able to see your light

I love you! That’s why I’m certain we’ll meet again someday.

Hoshi no Arika (Bossa Nova Version)
Anemone

The silhouette of yours, like the stellar light, fading away in the shining sunrise.
Don’t know where to go, I’m lost and all alone, my feelings falling like the morning dew.

Through the hardest time, or the happy time, I used to be stronger, had dreams in my eyes.
I won’t be afraid whatever tomorrow may bring only if I could be with you.

Please believe in the time we spent together.
Have it in your heart as it’s in my heart.

As no tender lies as no sympathy. The sun brings the morning and the night is away.
Even though the stars are taken by the dawn, I’m still able to see all the shine on you.

Without saying goodbye, while I close my eyes
You’re gone in no time, I am all alone

What was on your mind? What were you trying to hide?
What were you seeing back then in your eyes?

No one can erase the time we spent together.
I believe in the time we held our hands.

Through your loneliness, or your aches and pains, I want you to know that I am here to share.
If we could meet again to see in each other’s eyes, we’re still able to make our wish come true.

By the time of dawn, falling into a doze, the breeze blowing gently, softly stroke my cheeks.
Thinking of your voice and the way you called my name, I am filled up with all your memories.

Have your memories as my golden wings, I go up in your sky, reaching out to you.
Even though the stars are taken by the dawn, I’m still able to see all the shine on you.

We can meet again as we believe in the love, and let me tell you once again that I love you.

Yotaka will be building up the playlist with other songs over the next few weeks, which will also be featured in future Translation Tuesday articles. You can find it as it currently is here.
