4gamer.net Annual Look Back at 2017 Questions with Toshihiro Kondo

Every year, 4gamer does an interview with a large number of game creators and directors to ask them about things from the past year and what they are looking forward to with the next.

Toshihiro Kondo was, once again, included in this list. Here is a translation of the questions he was asked and his answers.

If you check out the link at the bottom of this article, you can see the answers from a variety of other individuals in the game industry- as they reached out to about 180 people.

Question 1: Of the games released in 2017, which title was your favorite? (Or what you believed to be the most shocking?)

Title: World of Tanks

I didn’t get much time to play games during 2017, and while it wasn’t something I bought, I played World of Tanks more than anything else.

At first, it seemed like a simple game of exchanging shots between tanks and the beginning makes it seem that way, but I was impressed with the difficulty advances as you progressed in the game.

As you become more familiar with the differences between heavy tanks, medium tanks, light-weight tanks, and tank destroyers while building your own team of tanks, you begin to think more carefully about the abilities you have access to and what started as a simple game leaves a deep impression on you as a player.

It’s because of that complexity underneath the simplicity that keeps me playing it.

Question 2: What was your favorite work in the various entertainment contents [ed: tv, movies, books, etc] released in 2017?

It would be the manga called Golden Kamuy.

While I was a college student, I traveled to Hokkaido for over a month to visit museums and archive offices there, so this region holds a special place in my heart.

I picked up this title for some reason or another, but it is filled with adventure, humor, and historical context, and it draws you in with the best of these topics. Its strongpoint is with its characters. I’m eagerly awaiting the anime adaptation of it.

Question 3: What individual did you follow the most during 2017?

Kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa.

I’m not fully aware of martial arts, but I found myself to be captivated by that incredible knock-out when I caught a glimpse of it on late-night television, and I began to check through videos of all of his matches.

I was even more surprised to hear that he’s a high school student. I think that some day he may even take on K-1’s Takeru.

Question 4: As you look towards 2018, what message do you have to 4gamer.net readers?

This year, we are releasing The Legend of Heroes Sen no Kiseki IV -THE END OF SAGA-, which will be the ending of the [Erebonia] story. Not only that, but I believe that its events will also lead it to being a major turning point for the Kiseki series that started with Trails in the Sky FC.

All of the staff at Falcom are eagerly working for users to finally get to know the contents within the game.
