[Editorial] How To: Purchasing Nico Douga Points

jdkconcert

I’msure people are hyped up for the JDK Band concert. But what if you want to watch the live stream, but you can’t get the Nico Douga points due to your locale? Not a problem!

It’s actually not that the card is in the US that is presenting the problem. It’s the fact that your card is likely not enrolled in one of the ‘3D Security’ programs offered by Visa or MasterCard. NicoDouga has a notice on their website that states that they only take cards enrolled in those services.

The above image details the program. The cards they accept are Visa, Mastercard, and JCB. I don’t have much information on the JCB card, but I did find information for the other two…

What is ‘3-D Secure?’
Read below from the Wikipedia article on the subject:

3-D Secure is an XML-based protocol designed to be an additional security layer for online credit and debit card transactions. It was developed by Visa with the intention of improving the security of Internet payments and offered to customers as the Verified by Visa service. Services based on the protocol have also been adopted by MasterCard, under the name MasterCard SecureCode, and by JCB International as J/Secure.

This protocol will call in a popup and require the customer to enter a new password that is created by them on the credit card’s security website. Using 3-D Secure, as the above mentions, creates a new layer of security. A card requiring it, and a site that uses the service will trigger a popup during the transaction process for the password entry.

Is My Card Eligible?

Not every card is eligible for these programs. You will need to reach out to your bank and ask if they participate in the programs. Mastercard’s website will allow you to look your bank up… but it’s easier to just call and ask.

Visa

Visa’s Verified by Visa program was the first of the 3-D Secure services created. You can find some details on it here.

If you want to activate your card on Verified by Visa, please follow this link.

Mastercard

Mastercard’s program is called SecureCode. You are able to register for it on this site.

Once You’re Registered

There is no wait time. I was able to turn around and purchase my points on Nico Douga immediately after registration. If you need guidance on purchasing points, it’s kind of pointless (har har) for me to retype everything, when there’s a good step by step process here.

The only difference is that after you enter your credit card information, you will get the Security Verification popup with the validation question that you gave your credit card company (it’s to prove that it’s pulling your information correctly), and a field to enter your security code. This was in English for me, so it shouldn’t be too hard to follow.

Go ahead and drop a comment if you have any questions. I’ll do my best to help answer them!

Good luck, and enjoy the concert!
